Tilt sensor

Postby theguyfromSanDiego » Fri Feb 17, 2012 3:12 pm

Hi there. New to the board.
I'm building a trike and want to make it tilt around corners. I know that it will be an ambitious project but I have already built a scaled down version that looks great.
I have built a prototype electronic circuit that uses a damped pendulum to sense tilt but I have found that Osepp has a 3 axis accelerometer that I can use to measure tilt so I am going to read up on these wonderful little circuits and see if I can figure out a good way to do this.
I have programmed in Basic before so I have some programming skills.
I found that Fry's Electronics carries these boards, that is how I found out about them.

Greg,

All the new product line should have hit the shelves by now at Fry's, let us know what you think!

Hey Greg,

Have you figured out how to use their sensors yet. I cant seem to find anywhere that explains how to do more than just get a single reading. The manufacturer of the chip states the chip can do some pretty cool things, but cant find code examples anywhere.

What have you found out?

Hi there. Sorry to take months to reply. I have been very busy working on my tilt sensor.

Yes, I have found out quite a bit about these. When you say "These chips" are you meaning the Arduino or the accelerometer?

When I search for info I go online and search search search.

The Arduino I am using (Uno) has 6 analog inputs to measure whatever you need to measure.

The Accelerometer has 3 outputs which I connect to three of the analog inputs on the Arduino. Then I can measure in three axes but my current project is only using one input.

Gotta go. I have a spine injury that only allows me a few minutes of upright time for typing.
